01-23-2009 1:39 AM -- By: Carsten,  From: Huntington Beach

Hi Kirsten, It’s your uncle Carsten here. I just wanted to wish you a happy birthday. And tell you how much we miss you and love you. We had a very nice birthday dinner in your honor at your Farmor and Farfar’s house this evening. There was a photo of you on the table. One of those beautiful pixyish pictures from when you were in Hawaii. Your Far pointed out how the photo was almost 3-D. Like a lifelike hologram letting us know you were present in spirit. Your bright smile reminded us of how happy you were in the final months of your much too short life. You always encouraged us to live in the moment and “be here now.” So we find a bit of comfort in knowing that you were truly happy in your “final now.” Guess that’s why you were there with us celebrating tonight and telling us in your own way that everything is alright, as long as we cherish the moment. Because the moment is all we really ever have, isn’t it?

01-20-2009 4:54 PM -- By: Susan Wynd Novotny,  From: Ukiah California

I am meeting Kirsten for the first time here at her Memorial. I went to the New College website and was motivated to come here, today, after the inauguration of our New President. I will read on and take the inspiration from your sharing of your life journey with me. My son is just a bit older than you were. These past 5 years have been a fight for him to have his Life after a traumatic brain injury contributed to a new challenge for him. In dedication to you, your life and to my son Sean my thanks to your family for keeping your work and dream alive in your memorial. Wynd

As a regular visitor to New Orleans and the Howlin' Wolf, I can empathize with those who see the poverty and want to help out. It's something the Mardis Gras tourist crowd overlooks, the unique culture and the decay that is the real N.O. It's tragic that Kirsten's commitment to improving the lives of others was cut short.

Any of us could be victims of circumstance; I think the best we can do is to live for the happy moments and try to give as much of that happiness back as we can. Kirsten was far more than a mere free spirit and I'm sorry I never had the chance to meet her in N.O.

I believe in Food Not Bombs and will try to work like she had worked. RIP Tomas Bartek

I live a CA community in Brooklyn. We are involved in a really really free market and the freegan movement. I never met Kirsten but reading her journals and seeing her pictures makes me wish I could have. What a beautiful and inspirational young woman. She has accomplished so much. I can only hope to live as meaningful a life as Kirsten led. I too am deeply sorry for your loss.

01-03-2009 10:41 AM -- By: Colleen,  From: Creamer

I am a friend of Suzanne and Tess Osborne who adored this adorable young woman.

And yes there will be a post capitalist society. I think what she was doing was brave and authentic progressive -- and necessary. My prayers go out to her friends and family. I am currently looking into the Collective Autonomy.

Dear Mamie and Steen, I just got the news 1/2 hour ago from Tess, who found out a week ago. I am shocked, saddened, sickened. Reading about your precious Kirsten and what a dynamic and lovely woman she grew into moves me so. My heart and thoughts and prayers are with you 2 and Erika. Sincerely, Susanne

I did not know Kirsten. I actually came across her memorial by accident looking for my siter-in-laws memorial, who was also shot and killed. This month marks a year of her absence. But I would like to extend my deepest sympathy, to the family and friends. It is hard to lose a loved one, I hope that you all will find comfort in my simple words.

I am sorry for your loss.

12-10-2008 7:56 PM -- By: Justin Nichol,  From: Riverside, Ca

I didn't know you well enough, despite that fact, there are tears in my eyes. I have hardly met anyone whose ideas seemed so readily to echo my own such that whenever I spoke to you I stopped feeling so alone for a while, and I loved you for that. I think of you often, and I wish I could have spent time with you in the flesh. It will take all my courage and a white knuckled grip to the memory you've left in me not to give up on what we fight for and become bitter, not to give into hate and dismiss my idea of the potential of humanity down to the level of the scum who stole you from us. I miss knowing you're out there, but fortunately you're still in me.

12-10-2008 8:15 AM -- By: Oraine,  From: Trinidad and Tobago

I just came across this via New College and I would just like to say that from what I have read in the journals and by looking at the pictures, Kirsten appeared to be a warm and beautiful person who was changing the world for the better. She had many friends and was obviously loved and had a giving spirit. My condolences to you all...but know that her work will go on and that she inspired others.

Blessed be.

12-07-2008 2:29 AM -- By: Benj Clarke, Shakti Tribe,  From: Long Beach, CA

Big hugs and condolences to Kirsten's family and friends, for certainly you all have lost a unique and beautiful person from your lives. Words are useless in face of such a loss. Please know that life never ends, we are indeed eternal beings, and all the GOOD that Kirsten created still echoes in this world through the hearts and actions of the people she touched. Frank Lindsay sent me to this memorial. Much love to you all.

12-06-2008 11:35 PM -- By: Larisa Stow,  From: Long Beach, CA

Frank Lindsay shared about Kirsten with me. What an amazing soul and light she was and still is in another form. I know her spirit will live on in the projects she created and the people she loved and touch. My deepest prayers of love and sympathy are with her family and close friends.

In peace and love, Larisa Stow

Very tragic, so sorry this happened. I have no direct connection to Kirsten other than we are all in the same tribe.

Doug Brown.

I attended school with kirsten and have known her many years, and i just recently heard of this unnecessary death. This tragedy strikes very close to my heart, as well as the other people that knew her. She will always be an exceptional spirit in all of our lives.
