To Kirsten's family, and especially to Erika,

I attended Holmes Middle School with Kirsten and was good friends with Erika at the time. I have pictures of Erika and myself in a drawer from 12 years ago, and I remember Kirsten.

I lost touch with Erika after we graduated 8th grade and am now a junior at CSUN. I am the editor of The Betty Newsletter in the department of Family and Consumer Sciences, and so while looking for an article to fill up the last page, I came across one written by a student who was an acquaintance to Kirsten, depicting the virtual memorial, and the inspiration that she sparked within the writer after her death. In her article, she encouraged readers to visit the memorial. As the editor, I have to check all content we print, and I couldn't figure out why the name Brydum was naggingly familiar until I visited this site, and the first picture in the slideshow was of Erika and Kirsten at Christmas. It quickly became evident and my eyes teared up. I then checked my 1997 yearbook, and discovered I had highlighted Kirsten's name in the "Not Pictured" section of the graduating class.

I am shocked and saddened by her tragic and untimely death. But more than that, I am so proud of what Kirsten accomplished in her 25 years of life. I don't remember us being very close, but I do recall the energy she possessed for life, even at 13 or 14.

I am so very sorry for your loss and I hope that the readers will visit Kirsten's virtual memorial as they have been urged by the writer. It must be an honor to have loved and known Kirsten like only a family can.

My deepest condolences to everyone who has been touched by Kirsten's death, and to those who have been inspired by her life. And to Kirsten, thank you for the reminder that it only takes one person, one young woman, to make a difference in the world.

Kirsten's legacy is simply amazing. What a strong a beautiful woman. What she accomplished in her short life was beyond what most people accomplish in very long lives. I never had the opportunity to know Kirsten personally but her cousin Ashleen is my best friend and through her, I have come to know Kirsten. It's my hope and prayer that we will all follow Kirsten's example and live to be as amazing and incredible as she was.

Since the hurricane, I have been living in TX. I continue to read of the crime wave of my beloved hometown. I was saddened to read of the tragic ending of this beautiful young woman. This is one of the reasons that I have not returned home.

09-30-2009 7:51 AM -- By: glenn,  From: the frozen wasteland (WI)

this crime greatly concerns me, since I frequently visit NOLA in the winter/spring, and use bikes and mass transit to get around. I do know where the projects are, and steer clear of them, esp. at nite.

I always remember you in my prayers. God Bless.

09-30-2009 12:44 AM -- By: Ms.Nessa,  From: LaPlace, LA

Words cannot express how saddened I am after reading this story. My God this young lady was doing Gods work and enjoyed it. Have you read her journal? She didnt judge ppl. according to their financial background she gave unconditionally. She was on her way to do great and wonderful things here in the Crescent City. To her family and friends I want you to know Kirsten is in Heaven. And the ones that killed her will be judged. I know that it may not hold too much weight now, but know that God is your strength, He will turn your mourning into dancing. Her life is celebrated beautifully and her memory will live on longer then Mike Jackson. People like her are extraordinarily special. What she had intended to bring to Nawlins is much needed. GOD LOVES YOU & IS WITH YOU BRYDUM FAMILY & FRIENDS.

09-29-2009 7:34 AM -- By: Liz,  From: New Orleans

This was a great loss for her family, friends, and the entire planet. I saw her story on the news this morning and read about her life. She was such a great, giving person that was making sacrifices to make the world a better place for others. She made a lot of difference in her short time on this planet.

09-29-2009 3:00 AM -- By: Lindsay,  From: Anaheim, Ca

Hey there beautiful. I was thinking about you today and just wanted to come on here and just say a simple hello. sometimes I come on here and read these wonderful entries and cant help but not break down a little. I truly wish I could have seen you one last time before this tragedy happened. One fond memory I have of you is at Elisa's sixties birthday party in auntie ellens and uncle carstens garage and you teaching me this dance move and I just couldnt get it right and I talked about it to my mom the rest of the day because of how much fun I had with you. You are truly being missed.

Love, Lindsay

I only found out about this a couple months ago and I am still shocked. How could something like this happen?

Kirsten and I attended St. Bridget of Sweden together for most of elementary school. I remember her fun spirit. On hot lunch days, she would get special orders from her mom and she was always kind enough to share her goodies with her friends. She was smart, funny and was never afraid to speak her mind.

We lost touch in jr. high and high school ... but during my last year of college, we ran into each other outside of a lecture hall. Both of us attended UC San Diego, but didn't know until that day. She greeted me with a smile. I almost didn't recognize her .. I think her hair was pink! =)

My condolences to her family. I hope justice will come soon and they can solve this case.

So so sorry for your loss. My daughter phoebe died a year an a half ago. Such a beautiful inspiration she was also. Kirsten touches my heart, her legacy is so grand and beautiful. Sean Hayes wrote a song for her and my phoebe was intertwined in it also. Such a tragic loss, these beautiful spirits, our shining stars I'm so sorry for your loss.

With much love and appreciation for her and her family.

I interviewed Kirsten for a story about the Really, Really Free Market. She seemed so pure and completely benevolent. I found out about her death randomly this year at Burning Man and was very saddened. I hope her memory lives on.

Here's the link to the story I produced, which contains audio clips of her voice and several photos: xpress.sfsu.edu/1001words/2008s/06free/

I have been following Kirsten's story for almost a year now. To say she seemed like a wonderful person is an understatement! I was wondering if there has been any progress in solving her case? I hate to think that the culprit is still out there. Best wishes to Kirsten's family and friends.

I'm deeply saddened to hear the news of Kirsten's passing. I knew Kirsten from our days over at St. Bridget's. Although we hadn't spoken in years she still was an amazing and beautiful spirit. I am so terribly sorry for your loss.
